🐍 Neon Snake
The classic snake game with neon style. Chain combos and grab golden stars!
About this game
Neon Snake is a neon-styled remake of the classic snake game loved since 1970s arcades and early mobile phones. On a 20×20 board the snake grows one cell each time it eats, and the run ends if you hit the border or your own body.
On top of the simple original rules we added a combo system, golden stars and wall blocks that appear every level, so your score rewards not just survival but how fast you eat. A small grace step right before a crash gives you one last chance to turn, making deaths feel fair.
How to play
- Click / tap the screen or press SPACE or ENTER. A 3-2-1 countdown starts the round.
- The snake starts 4 cells long in the middle of the board, moving right.
- Steer with the arrow keys (or WASD) or by swiping to eat food. Each food adds one cell and slightly increases speed.
- Every 8 foods you level up and 2 new purple wall blocks appear.
- Hitting the border, your body or a wall ends the game. Check your score, length and level, then press SPACE or click to play again.

Scoring
- • Each food = 10 points × current combo.
- • Eat again within 3 seconds to raise the combo by 1, up to x5 (10 → 20 → 30 → 40 → 50 per food). After 3 seconds it resets to x1.
- • Every 5 foods a golden star appears for 5 seconds. It is worth a flat +50 points and also grows the snake.
- • A ring shows the star’s remaining time, and it blinks during the last 30%.
- • Your best score is saved in the browser; beating it shows “NEW BEST!” on the result screen.
Tips & strategy
Combo is everything
The same food is worth 10 points at x1 and 50 at x5. Food always spawns at least 2 cells from your head, so circling near the center keeps the next food within 3 seconds more often.
Don’t force the golden star
Stars spawn at least 4 cells away and vanish after 5 seconds. Missing one does not break your combo, but a risky turn into a wall ends the run — go for it only on a safe path.
Make room before leveling up
Two permanent wall blocks appear every 8 foods. Keeping your body packed to one side leaves a large open area for the later, faster levels.
Queue your turns
Up to 3 direction inputs are buffered and applied in order, so a quick U-turn can be entered as two fast presses. Reversing directly into yourself is ignored.
Use the grace step
Right before a crash the snake pauses for one step with a low beep. Turning during that step saves you — crucial near top speed (after 39 foods).
FAQ
Do I need to install anything or sign up? ▾
No. It runs directly in your web browser without login, on PC, phones and tablets. The in-game text is in Korean, but the controls are the same as described here.
How fast does the snake get? ▾
It starts at 140 ms per cell and gets 2 ms faster per food, reaching top speed (62 ms) after 39 foods.
Can I move into my tail? ▾
Yes, on a step where you don’t eat, the tail moves away, so entering the cell it leaves is safe.
